It’s March. We’re all about basketball, and so is our new president. He’s talking stimulus package now, but hoops have always been on his mind and agenda - street games on the public courts in Honolulu; bench warming at the elite Punahou School; pick- up games in Harlem when he went to Columbia; lots of games with pals at Harvard. In Chicago, Obama trained at an intense gym used by off-season, professional athletes, a gym run – not surprisingly- by Michael Jordan’s trainer during Jordan’s Bull days. During Obama’s campaign, basketball meant campaign luck. He won campaign caucuses following fast, competitive games out on the trail. Too snowy to play in New Hampshire before that caucus, Obama lost the vote.
Luckily, the Obama cabinet line-up is like a basketball star roster- better basketball players than any US cabinet ever. The Attorney General played for Columbia U; education secretary played for Harvard and then professionally in Australia; national security advisor was a star at Georgetown; top campaign aid played for Duke. There are lots of players in Congress lined up to be in the Obama game, and the Washington Wizards have given the president an open invitation to play with them.
Michelle Obama’s brother was All-Ivy twice while playing basketball at Princeton. He coached at Brown but is now coaching at Oregon State. Because he felt that basketball reveals character, Michelle sent her brother to play hoops with Obama and secretly size him up. Her brother told Michele that Obama was a good player with a strong outside shot. Most left handed players are quicker moving right but Obama was quicker to the left. No politics involved there. Obama was team oriented, had a good feel for the game and stayed under control. It’s all history, the Obama’s history.
Whether you’re a devoted weekend warrior like the president; a serious basketball player or other elite athlete; a coach potato waiting to watch great basketball this month; or just someone who wants more muscle and less fat, All the Whey protein shakes will improve your muscle/ fat balance and your mood. That should be all the stimulus you need to pick up your game.
