Aminos - For those in the know

Who wants more muscle, less fat and less weight

For athletes who want more muscle and less fat, or for anyone thinking about wearing the dreaded bathing suit, and wanting to shift that muscle/fat ratio towards the muscle side while losing some weight, amino acids in general, but leucine in particular, may be your new, best friend and weapon. This is all about efficient protein synthesis and fewer hunger pangs.

Ask around. Any serious athlete will tell you that building muscle mass is much more difficult when you’re cutting fat and calories. Bodybuilders will tell you that to build muscle, you need to stimulate muscle tension and certain hormones; find enough amino acids, growth factors and calories; and rest between work outs.

Medical researchers from Penn State offer some science based tips to help. Their studies confirm that dieting can cause reduced muscle mass because with fewer amino acids available, there is less protein synthesis; more protein breakdown. By increasing amino acid levels, especially levels of leucine, not only will the protein breakdown process be reversed, but leucine will also suppress food cravings!!!

Get pumped! Amino acid levels in general, but mainly leucine, will promote the release of mTOR, a protein that’s super sensitive to subtle energy changes. It’s mTOR that activates protein synthesis while it also inhibits hunger sensations coming from the brain’s appetite control centers. If you want to hold onto or build muscle mass while losing weight, you need some mTOR working for you. With mTOR, you have one key for turning on protein synthesis, turning down protein breakdown and turning off appetite. Increasing amino acid levels, especially leucine, is the most effective way to promote the release of mTOR.

Why wait any longer? Let’s get those aminos pumping away fat and pumping up muscle!
